Both can appear in the same small chat window. Behind that window, though, they may have very different responsibilities. A product described as “intelligent” still needs a clear job description.

A chat interface does not tell the whole story

A chatbot is a conversational interface. It might follow prepared responses or use a language model to compose messages. An agent may use tools and choose steps to complete a task, depending on its design.

The terms overlap: a chatbot can provide access to an agent. When comparing solutions, ask what they read, what they change and how they decide what happens next.

When a reliable answer is enough

Visitors asking about opening hours, services or contact procedures may be well served by a bounded information assistant. It needs current sources and a clear handoff when it cannot answer.

Autonomous actions are not automatically useful here. An accurate answer, a relevant link and an easy route to your team may deliver exactly what the visitor needs.

When the system must act

Imagine a visitor arranging a meeting. The system must interpret the request, check availability, offer a time and create the appointment after confirmation. It is now acting inside business tools.

This illustrative scenario requires precise permissions, handling for scheduling conflicts and protection against duplicate bookings. Fluent conversation is only one part of the job.

Make the demo handle exceptions

Try changing your mind halfway through. Ask what happens when the calendar is unavailable or information is missing. Submit something outside the intended scope. Check whether the system explains its limit and passes useful context to a person.

Also ask how actions are recorded. Understanding what happened is more useful to the team than a long list of technologies.

Choose the outcome first

Do you need an answer, a prepared file or a confirmed action? That distinction gives the project a practical scope.

ARKHAME builds agents and integrations around these needs. Start by describing the service you want to provide, then define how far the system is allowed to go.
