It starts with a client area, a dashboard and a few documents. Then someone asks for “a little export button.” The button may be small. The decisions behind it rarely are. A useful application brief describes the work before listing the screens.

Map one complete workflow

Consider an illustrative service-request application. The useful journey starts when a customer submits a request and ends when it is closed. Someone must assign it, ask for clarification, attach documents and update the customer.

Describe those steps with the people doing the work. Design the screens afterwards. Otherwise, a polished dashboard can arrive before anyone has agreed how its data will be maintained.

Make permissions explicit

Customers view their own files. Staff handle assigned work. Managers oversee activity. Translate those roles into clear rules: who can edit a record, remove access or export a document?

OWASP provides an application-security verification framework that developers can use as a reference. The important part is applying and testing relevant controls in the actual application.

Include the unglamorous cases

What happens when a request is submitted twice, an upload fails or two people edit the same record? Error messages, history and recovery belong in the product.

Search, useful filters and correction paths also matter. A comfortable tool handles ordinary mistakes, rather than only the perfect journey shown in a demonstration.

Identify the connections

Will the application exchange information with a CRM, calendar or business system? Define what moves in each direction and which system is authoritative. An address edited in two places needs a predictable rule.

The first version can focus on one workflow and a few dependable connections. It should still account for data retrieval and changing access rights.

Write a brief people can test

Bring together the roles, main workflow, anonymized examples and clear success criteria. A useful test might be whether someone can find a request, understand its status and continue handling it without reading an entire email chain.

That gives ARKHAME a concrete basis for designing screens and behaviour that fit your organization.
